Predation is one of the most known forms of finding food. It is one of only two ways to get food, the other being making your own from an energy source. Though those are the only ways two acquire energy there are two different types of predation.
True Predation
True Predation is when you capture, kill, and eat your food. This is usually what comes to mind when you here predator. This can happen by an animal running and chasing its prey, like a cheetah, to an animal laying a trap for its prey, like a spider. What happens afterward is that that the prey is torn apart and eaten, or or swallowed live and killed in the digestive process.
Grazing
Grazing is the form of predation in which you eat part of the prey without killing it. You usually see this with herbivores and omnivores eating plants. Since plants are technically living this is considered predation. But the plants are not killed so it isn’t considered true predation. You can see this in how cows eat grass, or a bear eats berries. what usually happens in this case is that the piece of the plant eaten is digested but then the rest of the plant grows back and is soon back to normal
