Competition is actions between rival orgganisms for food, water, and shelter. For example an owl and a hawk both eat mice. So they compete for food. Usually animals find ways to adapt to a situation and make it easier to eat food without being in the others’ way. Using the owl hawk example, a hawkhunts in the daytime while an owl is nocturnal and hunts by night. There are txo different kinds of competition, Interspecific, and intraspecific.
Interspecific Competition
Interspecific competition aoccurs when animals in the same species are competing. This is usually happens during the mating seasons when males battle it out for mates. A great example of this is the birds of paradise. The males in this group are brightly colored and have special qualities such as being able to “sing” or “dance”. This is to impress the especially picky females who go around looking for men to mate.
Intraspecific Competition
This is competition between different species. This kind of competition between different species can lead to two different things, extinction or specialization. In extinction one animal is not able to get enough food therefore it slowly dies off. In speciation the animal adapts to the situation bychanging something about itself to give it the ability to collect food better, or to eat a different kind of food.
